Solar & Battery Storage

What are Solar PV Panels?

Solar panel are also commonly also known as solar photovoltaics or solar PV. They have been the renewable energy choice for many over 20 years. There have been various funding and Government schemes over the last 15 years to encourage property owners to install solar panels but, even without these incentives, solar PV panels still remain an excellent choice for reducing your carbon footprint and saving money on your electricity bills.

Some people think “What’s the point in getting panels in the UK as we don’t get a lot of sun”’ The answer is simple as Of course, the stronger the sunshine the more electricity is produced, but even on cloudy and overcast days the cloud is still penetrated by a sufficient amount of solar radiation which is enough to generate electricity.

What are the benefits of Solar PV Panels?

Solar PV panels use energy from the sun and convert it to electricity. You can save up to 90% of your electricity bills.

    • Solar power is a renewable energy source.
    • You will see a massive reduction in your energy bills as you are generating your own electricity.
    • You can also receive payments for the electricity that you generate and don’t use.
    • With solar panels you will be protected against future energy price rises.
    • The value of your property will increase as reduced energy bills appeal to potential buyers
    • Most solar panel installations don’t require any planning permission and can be installed in 1-2 days (depending on the project).

    What is Solar Battery Storage?

By adding Battery storage to your Solar PV system gives you the added benefit of storing your solar energy. The battery then extends the use of your solar PV system by storing your unused power for use when the panels are not generating electricity, such as at night / after dark. This will then give you a free renewable energy source at all times, which is not reliant on the solar panels alone. This will also help reduce your consumption from the grid and further protect your home or business from future energy prices rises.

This rapidly advancing technology will enhance your solar PV panel system substantially. It takes generating your own electricity to the next level and allows you to store power for when it’s really needed, when everyone is at home after dark and running multiple appliances for example. If you already have solar panels installed in your property, or you plan to install in the future, battery storage must be considered.

    Battery Storage options

There are various Battery storage options on the market, from well-known and leading brands including Tesla, Samsung, Sunsynk, Pylontech and Puredrive. All of these come with different levels of power storage and usage capacity, warranty and life spans, which is also reflected in the price. There are also are lithium ion options available. Compared with traditional batteries, a lithium ion battery charges much faster and lasts longer and also has a higher power density for more battery life and it comes in a smaller package.

It is essential to ensure that the choice of battery storage is suitable for the solar panels that are already installed, or you plan to install. If you contact us, we are able to advise you of the available options and explain the benefits of each product.

We recommend you consider the following before installing Solar PV Panels:

      – Your roof should face between east and west for maximum exposure to the sun. We do not suggest installing solar on north facing roofs.
      – The best roof for solar is south facing but we know not everyone has a south facing roof!
      – Your roof should be free from any shading for most of the day. Shading can come from buildings or trees or in some cases dormer windows. This would reduce the amount of electricity that is produced. However, when fitted with micro-inverters low amounts of shade can be overcome.
      – Your roof needs to be free from structural issues as it will be required to accommodate the extra weight of the solar panels and fixings.

Government grants are available in relation to the energy your solar system generates. It is worth contacting us and we can let you know what is available at the time.
